Give Help

Volunteer

Volunteers are the life blood of foodbanks. Your skills could be just what we need.

Volunteers are the driving force behind foodbanks. There are thousands of volunteers across the UK, helping The Trussell Trust Foodbank Network get emergency food to people in crisis. We want you to enjoy volunteering and there are lots of ways to get involved. Whatever role you choose, you will make a real difference to the life of someone in crisis.

Volunteers

All volunteers must be willing to support us with our Mission statement which is to carry out the activities of the Orkney Foodbank within Christian Values.

Our volunteers cover a wide range of duties including working in the store room area weighing in and recording donations, making sure all foods are in date and are stored in date order; making up parcels and weighing them out so we can keep accurate stock records. Logging any items we are running low on so the Foodbank Manager is always aware of any shortages.

Usually volunteers will meet or greet clients – at the moment this part of our service is suspended due to COVID and we deliver all parcels instead.

Volunteers help collect the items donated at our fixed donation points at the local Tesco and Co-ops.

There is a supervisor on every shift who co-ordinates activities.

Web editor – in the future

Our local website needs constant attention. Could your digital skills help communicate our message to a local and global audience? You will need to know a little about websites and ideally have experience of using WordPress (though training and support is available).
